My mom has recently been diagnosed with very high blood pressure. She has been on Toprol XL -- didn't work. she was on Lisinopril -- didn't work. The ONLY thing that brings it down is Clonidine -- 0.1mg 4X a day (it doesn't last long once ingested). If she goes much over 4 hours between doses, it begins to creep up to and over 200/85-95.
the Clonidine makes her feel completely draggy and ';loopy.'; She just has no energy and feels like she can't think or remember things.
I'm real concerned about her. The doctor tells us we should start seeing some much better numbers in the next 2 weeks and that the fatigue and fogginess should also wear off by then as well.
Can anyone offer any advice or comments? Are all of the above symptoms normal when starting BP meds?
Thanks! Can someone offer some help/advice on blood pressure meds?
Yes. Starting medication to control hypertension puts an incredible strain on the system, and your mother will have particular difficulty with physical activity, balance and the like for several weeks. With her numbers - 200 over - it's a small price to pay for getting better.
Her body will get more and more used to the medication. However, controlling her blood pressure is a long road, and it's going to be rough. Can someone offer some help/advice on blood pressure meds?
Those side efeects that you have described, seem to be taken out of a text book, those are the classic side effects of Clonidine, don't worry, it is expected when taking Clonidine. If only she would have responded to Lesinopril, it is one of the 1st line drugs for the treatment of hypertension, with minimum side effects in comparison to Clonidine, anyways Best of luck, hope ur mom gets well soon.
Clonidine is sedative, and the doctor's right; it probably will get better. Clonidine also comes in a patch that might be appropriate after she and her dose are adjusted, but it's expensive. She may need several drugs if her hypertension is severe. Be patient. It's even more dangerous to treat too much too fast than it is to have the high blood pressure, so don't think the doctor is dragging his feet for no reason. This stuff takes time.
My son takes Clonidine and yes the sedative effects do wear off and so does the fatigue. It is completely normal.

Basketball advice? I need help on what to do on my team?
I'm a really good offense player. I wanna play how i usually do on my team but i dont want them to get mad at me for being a ball hog. What should i do?Basketball advice? I need help on what to do on my team?
If you know what your doing you need to show it to them. If you are the point guard they shouldn't call you a ball hog.Basketball advice? I need help on what to do on my team?
In short Basketball is a team sport. Everyone has a role to play on the court. If your good on offense your team can feed off your energy. Make sure every one does there role and when it time to take over a game you need to have the ball in your hands. Be sure to work on your defense cause it could lead to easy fast break points for your team. Good Luck
do what you're doing, but pass the ball off sometimes, just not when you have like a wide open lay-up or something. sometimes if you're on a roll and you make a good pass and your teammate can finish, you get as much credit as you would get from scoring.

Ballet questions, I need some advice, help?
Well, lately I've been stretching alot. But, what can I do to have the strength to hold it? Adaggio?
Also, do you have any exercises I can use? Well, for anything. I just need some new exercises.
Thanks(:Ballet questions, I need some advice, help?
Adaggios are great. Also, try using a barre, just put your leg on top of it, and lift it up as high as you can go. When you're ready to put it down, do so very slowly.
Also, leg switches+crunches are good for your stomach. Every time during addagio, force yourself to hold it just a few moments longer, lift it up higher, and lower it.
You can do it! If your leg is very high, grab it and pull it up to the side of your head, then let go and see how long you can hold it.
Plus it helps to ask a teacher/friend to gently hold your leg for a minute or so so you have a little support but are still working.Ballet questions, I need some advice, help?
First, look to Amazon.com for books on the subject (see link below). Based on reader reviews, I would recommend ';Conditioning for Dance,'; ';NYC Ballet Workout...'; or ';The Joffrey Ballet School's Ballet-Fit.';
If you prefer to check out the books before buying, make a list of the titles that sound most interesting to you and see if your local public library has any of them in its collection. You also could visit your local bookstore where you at least can skim through the books before you buy.
Also, try books on Yoga or Pilates as they include exercises for building your ';core'; or ';center'; which will help in your strength and stability for the adagio movements.
Happy dancing!!

Advice to help speed things up after a membrane sweep?q?
i had a sweep done yesterday, i had contractions last night 3-4 mins apart and had a bloody show as well. The contractions slowed this am and have been on and off all day not regular. I have been walking and bouncing on a birth ball any suggestions to get things moving or any hope would be greatly appreciated!Advice to help speed things up after a membrane sweep?q?
Well
I really don't get anything from this questionAdvice to help speed things up after a membrane sweep?q?
Seriously, not a lot........
When the apple is ripe it will fall. take the time and relax Sex, could work, at the very least would be fun. You might be in need of a good giggle at this stage.
If you have the energy, when i was over i cleaned out the oven and the fridge. I sat on a birthing ball while i done them, not sure if it works but she was born the next day. Not very interesting but was the last time they got properly done until she got a bit older.
It will happen, your on the home stretch
Walk, walk, walk... And then try having sex!!!
Also, I've heard eating eggplant...?
Good luck!!!
Bounce on an exercise ball for 5 minutes a day and take a bath daily and push for ten seconds, relax for ten seconds and repeat the process ten times.
Have sex. That is supposed to help a lot. Good luck!!!! Oh...and if you don't go to the hospital before tonight, place a towel under your sheet to protect the mattress in case your water breaks. :)
I wouldnt bounce on anything with the baby in that position. Walking thats about it.
Sex.
Good Luck.
And Best Wishes!

my toe is bent backwards and whenever i try to move it i can feel the blood coming out it hurts!!!!! any advice besides go to a doctor to stop the pain or something pleaseeeeeeMy toe is bent backwards and whenever i move it i feel the blood help me please any advice besides seeing a d?
There is really nothing you can do besides go to the emergency room. You really should go. Otherwise, there isn't anything you can do, besides make sure that it isn't infected or anything. My toe is bent backwards and whenever i move it i feel the blood help me please any advice besides seeing a d?
You really need to go to the emergency room to at least get an x-ray. It may be broken. For the pain: use and ice pack on your toe and take a couple tylenol.

I fell and got hurt and I need advice/help!?!?
Okay, i was with my friends and i fell off my skateboard down a hiil, i got cuts all over and i landed on my left hand. It's not bruised but cut up, but it hurts so bad. It's definetally something with my muscle.
Can anyone tell me how to make cuts heal faster and how to sooth the pain in my hand?I fell and got hurt and I need advice/help!?!?
May want to wash your hands really really well with soap and water to be sure all the asphalt asnd dirt is out of the lesions. NO hydrogen peroxide!! If you use this, be sure to water it down to at least half strength (50:50) with water.
You can apply cold to your hands and keep them elevated....lay on the couch and put a pillow on your chest, put ice on pillow and lay hands on ice. However, don't make the cold icy cold....that could make them ache. Just a couple of ice cubes will be fine, or a bag of ice or frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel. That way, will not get too cold and drippy.
As for healing quickly, as long as there is no remaining dirt, there is no way to make them heal quickly. If they get infected, can soak them in hot water, as hot as you can stand it, to pull infection out of the tissues. But that would be a few days off. Signs of infection are excessive redness, hot, throbbing, swelling, maybe a little drainage. Open areas on the hands almost always are expected to become somewhat infected. So do wash them with soap and water very often throughout the day.
Good luck

Advice on seeking help without insurance?
Im 25 and suffer from severe depression. As a teenager I was diagnosed and hospitalized for it twice. I havent had any treatment since I was 17.
Recently, I had a baby and my depression has kicked into overdrive and I decided to try and get treatment for it again.
My problem is, Im embarrassed about it. i dont have health insurance and have been calling around trying to find out where I can get help for it without having insurance, but I havent had any luck.
Does anyone in my situation have any advice?Advice on seeking help without insurance?
I do understand completely. And actually you are not alone in that you feel embarrassed about asking for help. I know for me it was the fact that if I did, it was like I was saying I was messed up and something was wrong with me.
I am an independent broker with Ameriplan (just so you know before hand and it's not like I am trying to hide anything or that I am just saying all this to get you to buy something...) I do use the plans personally and love them, and for someone in your situation without insurance and needing to find a way of getting the help you need, it can in fact help.
That being said, one service that is offered through our plan, is online mental health services. You can actually get the help you need %26amp; not have to feel so nervous about it.
You can take a look at the plans at http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/cberney
And if you click on ';Locate a Provider'; then scroll down the page, you will see the info in regards to the Online Mental Health services.
Hopefully this will help you out! Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to have more details.

Most cities have mental health crisis centers where you can go in case of emergency. But you can also call them for referrals to non profit mental health centers that will provide services on a sliding scale.
Perhaps Planned Parenthood can refer you to someone. Good luck!
You can usually find free or inexpensive treatment at college campuses, where they train psychologists and social workers. Or, you can offer to pay out of pocket, on a sliding scale, but it's harder to find someone that will accept it. Ask for interns or people working under supervision. They will accept less $$.

Pregnancy at ten weeks and would like some advice/help please?
Im ten weeks 5 days and cant feel my uterus rising should I be worried? I had a scan last week and everything looked fine. But I heard that the uterus is the size of a grapefruit at ten weeks, if that is true shouldnt I be able to feel my uterus above my pubic bone
Please help me than you xxPregnancy at ten weeks and would like some advice/help please?
i was told that at 12 weeks your uterus is the size of a grapefruit and that is when it pushes up above your pubic bone so i wouldn't worry if i was you. my midwife told me at 9weeks there was no point in her checking my belly as she wont be able to feel the uterus for a few weeks.

You uterus wont be above your pubic bone until at least 12 weeks. Also your size will determine when you feel it, the smaller you are the sooner. However I'm 13 weeks and petite but cant feel anything. It'll be there when its ready :)
ive looked this up soo many times about when you are suppsed to feel your uterus above the pubic bone and from what ive read over and over again is that everyone is different and each and every pregnancy is different and typically if it is your first pregnancy you may not be able to feel the top of the uterus as early as 12 weeks, ive read forums about women who were at 14-16 weeks and worried because they couldnt feel anything, but answerers assured them that it is completely normal and insisted that they wait a weeks or two,and since the forums were from a while ago you the see the posts they made about finally popping and feeling their uterus, so dont worry, i myself am 11 weeks and 3 days and cant feel the top of my uterus, so dont worry it will come! just be patient! and happy pregnancy!
Don't be worried. The Dr. usually won't even start measuring the fundal height until 16 weeks. I went in @ 12.5 weeks and she couldn't feel the top of my uterus. I had a scan two days later and the baby was just fine. I am now 16 weeks and only this past week could I feel the top of my uterus.

What should I do? College help and advice?
I am in 8th grade, and I'm already thinking about going to an Ivy League College. What should I do from now to get accept to let's say, Brown or Columbia? Any advice/tips?What should I do? College help and advice?
I'm a senior at an Ivy League University (UPenn), and when I was in high school, I focused largely on my academics. I took the SAT twice. I took several AP classes and exams. I worked my *** off and was always in the top handful at my public school in terms of grades.
But I didn't just focus on academics, as what universities are looking for is a 'well-rounded' person. This means that you should focus on other things; sports, drama, service work. I ran cross-country all four years of high school, was involved in my school chorus all four years, and was a member of several organizations as well. What should I do? College help and advice?
I attend Princeton university. At Princeton, we prefer students with a 4.6 GPA. You should also consider taking as many honors, AP. CLasses as possible. Take the SAT and aim for a 2200. That score is the minium requirements, but don't meet the minium, but aim for higher. Get involved!! Our acceptan e rate is about 5%. The school recieves about 300,000 applications, only 3,000 get in. So study, study, study

I have been trying to clear my green pool for days w/all the ideas and advice but its still green...Help?
have shocked it put I bleach etc. I can not afford to drain it it is not slimmy just green someone has to knowI have been trying to clear my green pool for days w/all the ideas and advice but its still green...Help?
Ok is it above ground or inground? Clean your filter 2-3 times a day and depending on how big your pool is add LIQUID POOL CHLORINE. Keep cleaning the filter and it should clear up also brush the side ofthe pool so the filter will get rid of the green stuff.. contact me if u need more help that is the biz im in..I have been trying to clear my green pool for days w/all the ideas and advice but its still green...Help?
Al-gen treatment(for green water in pools). Walmart or Menard's has it for cheep. Yesterday I had to treat my pool for the same thing. I used the shock treatment and a gallon of Al-gen treatment for a 16x48 round above ground pool.Within an hour it was clear but a little cloudy.GL
Get a pro to do something about it it's usually not that expensive
Or buy a filter system and use the right chemicals
you must drain the pool and then re fill it. that is the only way!!!!!!!!
Circulation
Filtration
Proper water chemistry
Those are the 3 requirements to maintaining a blue, clear pool. Use your test kit to determine Total Alkalinity, pH, and chlorine levels. Adjust accordingly. Run the pump continuously and keep the filter cleaned/backwashed. If it's a sand filter change the sand if it doesn't get better in a couple days. Sand filters are famous for this sudden greening. One of the ';benefits'; of owning one! If all else fails use a flocculant to settle all the gunk to the bottom, then vacuum to waste. Start with chemicals, though, as they are the easiest to check and correct.
Could it be algae the try some algacide, check your PH and Alkaline levels and adjust accordingly.
You could take a sample to your local pool store for testing and they should be able to advise you
you have had an alge bloom go to your local pool store and they can help, do you have a filter the cartridge might need changed or it is not functioning properly see if you have proper flow to filter
You have got to load it with shock, not sure how big your pool is but with mine it took 2 1/2 to 3 times the usual amount of shock, 2 or 3 times a week to kill all the algae. Also get an algicide and use it according to the directions. And run the pump continuously for about 2 days, then let it set for a day. the dead algae cells will settle and form a layer on the bottom of the pool. without disturbing this layer too much, vaccuum out the scum on the bottom. The water will gradually appear clearer and clearer.
Keep up with the maintenance, because it can turn green overnight with high heat, a lot of people going in it, or rain.
Maybe the walls are painted green? Paint it a different color!

I am in a relationship and need guy advice? Help?
Just got back into a relationship where my ex asked me back out. I need some advice or a topic to talk about while around him so i dont sound like a babbling idiot. Thanks!I am in a relationship and need guy advice? Help?
how about you dont talk as much and let him do all the babbling...sometimes its better to shut up and listen, cause he'll reveal alot of about himself and the way he feels when he talks...and if he asks you what your thinking just say oh im just listening to you and thinking about what your saying;--) make yourself seem a little mysterious by saying less..I am in a relationship and need guy advice? Help?
Think of what he's interested and talk about that... Trust me, a guy can talk just as much as a girl can, when it's something they can go on forever talking about... Then, when u have that, find something that you have in common with what he has, and explain yours..... example, my soon to be gf, asks me about camping and i share it, den she goes on to share her past camping trip, and we talk about it... den new conversation starts...

My dear friend needs serious help, need advice?
I reunited with my X girlfriend from highschool recently . I also dated her brother. Well her broyher died of a drug overdose a year ago. She also lost her Mom to alcoholism. She is not doing good at all and I am very worried about her. Any suggestions on how I can help her? She blames herself for his death. Please help!!My dear friend needs serious help, need advice?
You should continue to be supportive of her...encourage her to talk about her feelings, no matter what they are, let her get it out, and re-assure her that these things happened because of peoples own bad choices, and that she is not responsible.
Tell her she has a choice not to follow that path if t you are concerned about her re-oeating the pattern.
Take a trip down memory lane when the two of you were the happiest hanging out together and try to get her to do something you used to do in those days...go to a movie together, take her for lunch or dinner or to a spa...
This will not happen all at once and may take several attempts to make any progress, and if you can get her to laugh at something, this will help to open the door for more constructive conversation.
Talk to a mental health professional, talk to some-one you trust...maybe your mother or an uncle....My dear friend needs serious help, need advice?
She needs somebody to cry on. Somebody who is sincere in listeneing to all what she would say
hi get her to go to the doctors,or talk to her about going to counselling groups or look up the phone book in youre area and you will find call centers that will be able to help her and you as you must be in shock as regards to the brother dying ....she is lucky to have you as a friend take care xx
Your friend is still mourning the loss of her brother, and her mother, although you don't say when she died. The best thing you can do for your friend is be with her as much as you can. Listen to her...reassure her that she has a good friend in you and she can depend on you - and make sure you prove this with action. She blames herself because she feels she has to blame someone and she can't blame her brother as he's dead. Gradually, with your support and love she'll come to see that her brother was the one who made the choice to take the drugs in the first place. Whatever his circumstances HE CHOSE DRUGS. He made a mistake which unfortunately was fatal. It is tragic and she probably has mixed feelings about him. Help her to accept that he made mistake, that she can forgive him and love his memory. The same goes for her mother - forgiveness and love .
Can she learn something from those two deaths? Can she make something of her life and honour their memories with a full useful life in the future. Maybe when she starts to heal she could do something to help others with problems. She has been through a lot and would be able to understand others with similar problems.
For the time being you must listen when she wants to talk, let her know you understand her and will be there for her. Maybe you could also ask her to help you with something so that she could start to climb out of this depressing state by thinking about helping you with something - a problem maybe or practical help like decorating or something!. Show her that she's needed and valued.
unless you are a psychologist or counselor of some type, i dunno if you can help other then just be there for her, and maybe try to talk to her about seeing someone.
take her on a girls night out.
get her to have fun. get her to look on the bright side of life.
her family did die so it would be nice of you to say to her that your sorry for her loss but it wasn't your fault.
does she have a man? get her a boyfriend(good one) and let her loose.
bring her with you to a counseler or something. if you just tell her she needs to see one she might get angry and think your judging her, but if you offer to go with her, it might make her loosen up about it a little bit. and she might feel more comfortable talking to someone if she knows she has a friend with her. and just keep her busy try and take her mind off of things, and reassure her that you will always be there for her. alwayys.
Just being there to LISTEN is the best thing you can do. Self blaming is VERY common when soomeone loses a loved one. Its part of mourning. She will work through it. Again, just let her know you are there. Help her remember her loved ones if she is ready, just ask questions and get her talking about them.
You are such a good person for wanting to help her even though you guys broke up and got back 2gether. I would love to have a loyal person like you as a friend. Your girlfriend is having a rough time. Tell her that you are there to support her, she will feel better about herself. Take her mind off of it go to a theme park, see a movie, give her comfort and show you just how much u care out her.
Do anything you can to prevent her from hurting herself. Convince her that it wasn't her fault if you can, but it can be a sore subject so don't barge into it. If you do she might get angry with you for a while but more than likely she'll come around. Make sure she knows that she's got a friend that's there to help her! It's always comforting, even in the darkest and most seclusive times of our lifes, to know that there's somebody there.

How can I ask my boyfriend why he hasnt given me a gift yet? please help I need advice!?
So I asked my boyfriend for these really special shoes and he asked me what color style and that was that. its been 3 weeks and he hasnt gotten them for me. I know he has the money..maybe hes been busy with work and family..but I feel like he forgot..how can I remind him how important these shoes are? its silly but still. I need advice! How can I ask my boyfriend why he hasnt given me a gift yet? please help I need advice!?
I think if you're old enough to have a boyfriend, you're old enough to be mature about this. The shoes aren't important! It's extremly rude to ask a guy to buy you something for no reason, and even more to assume a guy will buy something for you. He's your boyfriend, not you're servant. Buy them yourself, for gods sake. If you're going to be so selfish, childish and disrespectful to him about this, be the shoes girlfriend. It sounds like he wants to get them for you but just can't right now, grow up!How can I ask my boyfriend why he hasnt given me a gift yet? please help I need advice!?
its not his responsibility to get you shoes... if he doesnt wanna get them then he doesnt have to... grow up

Any advice on how to help a friend that just had a miscarriage?
My heart is breaking for her but I don't know how she feels because I've never been there. Her and her hubby have been trying to conceive for over a year and wanted this baby so bad. Their little girl was so excited about the baby but now they have had a miscarriage. Is there anything I can do for her??Any advice on how to help a friend that just had a miscarriage?
I had a miscarriage a year ago and have been trying to conceive for at least a year and am not headed into IVF since they found out my ovary no longer releases my egg. My friends feel the same way you do about what line to walk when it comes to my situation. My best advice is to give your condolence once and if she is ready to discuss with you then have an open ear. It is very hard for a couple because they have to hear how sorry everyone is from everyone who knows. It's hard enough to deal with it between them and then they have 20-30 other people calling them within the same week reminding them about it. I still a year later have people who find it appropriate to still offer their condolence when it happened a year ago. People want to be able to move on and not be reminded of their loss repeatedly.revlon colorstay

Can someone offer me some advice on how to help a friend who is suffering from depression?
My friend is 25 years of age and is suffering from severe depression. She has been in thereapy for 3 years with three different therapist and has also been on anti-depressants for 2 years and nothing seems to be helping. She was taking Zoloft, Paxal, and Laxapro but none of the medications worked no matter how high the doctors increased the dosage. She is extremely depressed about a number of things. She has low self-esteem because people always criticise her apperance and says that she's ugly which she is not in my opinion. She just looks like an average normal person. She hates the way her body looks and she's very depressed over the fact that she is lonely. She really wants a husband badly. She has never been in a relationship before at her age or have been out on a date before she cries and worries herself to death because she thinks that she will be alone forever. I am really worried I don't want my friend to committ suicide. I don't know what to doCan someone offer me some advice on how to help a friend who is suffering from depression?
The two most effective things I found for depression (and believe me I suffered for years) were:
1. Removing simple carbohydrates and replacing with complex carbs (eg Wholemeal instead of white bread). This allows a more natural chemical situation)
2. Physical exercise. Even if she doesn't feel like 'working out', suggest that the two of you go for a walk. the first day only has to be to the corner, then the next day go alittle bit further etc, until she is walking about 30-45 minutes a day. Moving the body relieves stress and allow better metabolism, which leads to a greater sense of wellbeing.
Please understand that depression must be attacted physically first, because mentally and emotionally the person is stuck in a hole and cannot just 'pick themselves up and dust themselves off'
Also pets can bring a new sense of love and wonder into a person's life. You could suggest to your friend that the two of you go shopping for a pet. Good on you for caring enough to try and helpCan someone offer me some advice on how to help a friend who is suffering from depression?
get her some ganga lol
if there are things she hate in herself how about encouraging her to do something about it instead of being so depressed ? she can take up sports or just go to the gym ........ excuses are for lame
I would suggest she see a naturopath. They seem quite insightful when it comes to these things.
As far as the low self esteem, I used to be just like that. I was so hung up on looks until I realized how much I was missing out on while I was worrying what I looked like. I guess I just grew out of it. In your 30's, you worry less about these things. In your teens and twenties, everyone is so preoccupied with fashion and looks.
Tell her to get out and get some sunshine in the meantime. I think a trip to the naturopath would be worthwhile since nothing else has helped so far.
Unfortunately if your friend is already seeing a number of professionals for her condition, and nothing has helped (maybe you mean that some things have helped somewhat, but not completely?), then you as a layperson don't have any power to cure this disease. Does she have people she can call when she's in a crisis, besides only you? Find out what support services there are for suicide or crisis in your city and make sure she has the contacts there.
Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, not merely worry about a particular idea or dislike of one's appearance. She has probably never had a relationship because of the way she acts, not the way she looks. Even models with kind and supportive husbands can get severely depressed. If you can stand to be around this person long enough, keep on talking to her and taking her on outings when she lets you, as sitting at home brooding will never help her condition. But the fact is that being a friend to such a person is extremely draining emotionally, since they tend to not be capable of fully giving friendship back (being usually listless, negative, and self-absorbed). Hopefully she will network so that you're not her one and only support.
Just be there for her. Having';clinical depression'; is tough. It runs in my family.Just knowing someone cares sometimes is enough for me.Don't overdo things too much though. If someone is extra nice to me all the time, I get suspicious. I don't know if your friend is any way like me, but I hope my suggestions helped you some. If she says she's going to kill herself though, take it seriously.it may just be a cry for attention, but many people who say they want to kill themselves really will try.You can never tell what might cause it either.I lost a friend of mine last year who had alot to live for, but he was also very confused about the direction his life was going. He warned us all he was going to do it. In the end, there was nothing we could do for him though, it was his decission.
You are a good friend, hang in there with her. I used to be alot like her. I take paxil and it works for me. First, she needs to stop the pity party and get honest with herself no matter how hard. Does she drink or use drugs? Encourage her to take good physical care of herself. Find a new therapist!!! ASAP. I also take vitamin B-100 which helps PMS and depression for me. She needs to get her hair done, exercise, use makeup, let her inner beauty shine, shine, shine. Men are attracted to women who are passionate about something, confident and sexy. I wish her the best! Her time will come!!!

I needs some advice Poll: More help with my inlaws and the drama, please?
So, we have been having a little family feud. His mom appologized to us and tonight invited us to go to dinner. We are still fighting with my husband's sister in law, however.
Should we go? It will be a free dinner, but awkward, so I'm not sure.I needs some advice Poll: More help with my inlaws and the drama, please?

hmm... that's a good one. Just try to stay away from the issue. Don't spark up an argument. and try not to fall in a trap that will lead to an argument. Make sure you have a great time, and let them see that you are having a great time.
I wouldn't go if you think it will be awkward. Just because it's free doesn't mean it's worth feeling weird being there. Trust me I've been in that situation plenty of times with my in laws.
Never, under any circumstances turn down free food, just be patient keep your mouth shut, eat your meal and then get up and smack the hell out of her and leave. Your welcome.
I wouldn't go, sounds like it would be very uncomfortable.
Free dinner? Heck yes go! Just act like nothing has happened if it isn't brought up. Just go and try to have a nice meal with no drama.
I say yes. You shouldn't hold grudges long cause you may never have the chance to apologize.
yes you should go.. its a peace offering.. I am sure it will be awkward, but you should still do it..
sorry that is not the answer you wanted..
Go and try for peace but don't take any abuse!
Is a free dinner worth putting up with all the drama?
Lol... seems like you just want the free dinner. Is it worth the drama though?
now or never
you should go, tell her you are sorry (in law) make like a reunion
sounds better than ramen. just keep your face stuffed with food so you have an excuse not to talk. =]
get sloshed than go,so is **** pops off you will be ready, lol

I need some help with earning credit asap, advice or tips or maybe just a good site for people like me?
I am currently 17 years old, is it possible for me to start earning credit now? Probably not, right? Well, when I hit 18 in September I wanna earn good credit as soon as I can because the housing I am looking at requires good credit, Im not sure how to go about it? I'm looking for advice on the fastest possible way to earn good credit. Thanks for any answers...I need some help with earning credit asap, advice or tips or maybe just a good site for people like me?
No, you really can't earn credit until you're 18. Once you turn 18, you can apply for a Capital One card--they often approve first-timers. If they turn you down, you can apply for a secured credit card like Orchard Bank. Use the card regularly by charging only small amounts on it and paying it off in the same month. *Never* use more than 30% of the available balance on a credit card at any given time, even if you pay it off in the same month.I need some help with earning credit asap, advice or tips or maybe just a good site for people like me?
Here are a few ways how you can improve your credit rating.
1)Make Payments on Time~If you want to build and maintain your credit rating, pay your bills on time and don't miss any payments. If you have missed payments in the past, get back on track. Your recent payment history counts more than ancient history.
2)Pay Off Your Debt~Don't transfer it all to a credit card and then transfer it from card to card to card. Financial experts recommend keeping your account balances less than 50% of your available credit. It shows that you have the ability to pay back your debt.
3)Establish Credit History~Your credit rating is established partially on your credit history. Your credit history is based on the nformation that your creditors have reported to credit bureaus, including credit cards, loans, and even some utility bills.
4)Don't Apply for or Take on Too Many Credit Cards~Having and using a credit card wisely can be beneficial to your credit rating. However, if you're constantly applying for new credit cards, it can hurt your rating, especially if you're getting turned down for them.

How rude scooter, god also says not to judge.
How old are you? can it be menaplause, this would explain the moodiness and late period.
But in all likelihood I believe its from the medication. Try changing the medication, but first go see your doctor and ask him for blood test to determine if your pregnant or not. Their more accurate, just to be on the safe side.To anyone whose in the same boat please help any advice id be grateful!?

Any advice on what i should take to help a torn ligament heal properly?
I tore the ligament in my right ankle n I need to play in 2 weeks. I tore it about 3 weeks ago so im wonderin wat I should do to help the situation.Any advice on what i should take to help a torn ligament heal properly?
Glucosamine Sulfate -- it's over the counter.
Ask the pharmacist for the varieties available.
Two weeks is short notice for it to work, but what the heck, you can try.
You can also ask your doctor for a topical NSAID -- requires prescription. That won't rebuild ligament but will reduce swelling, pain, etc.Any advice on what i should take to help a torn ligament heal properly?
Are you sure you tore it? If you tore it you really shouldn't play. It will be unstable and very painful. I dislocated my knee last year, and to this day I have issues with it. Elevate it, ice it every day, ibruprofen and see a doctor!! If it is not completely torn it can, which makes matters a lot worse. I am not a doctor so this is all just advice, and it is not to be taken literally just suggestions. But go see a doctor if you have not!

No problem at all.
1. Your passport is still valid. So long as its good for the period in which you will be traveling, then you will be fine.
2. There is a US embassy in Jamaica that would help you to resolve issues if your passport became a problem under any unforeseen circumstances. Please help with passport advice to Jamaica?
you can totally go with no problem.. u said that u are going on december.. if it's this coming december 2008 u wont be having any problem cuz your passport expires next on june 2009.. enjoy your vacation!
No there should be no problem as long as you return before April. This way you give yourself enough time should there be any unforeseen circumstances, such as weather probs or Airline service going bankrupt.
to say in jamaican speak- no problem just remember to take care of it before it expires have fun at home%26amp; love to the family !
No problem what so ever.revlon colorstay

Help finding advice with problem landlords in USA?
I have just moved into a rented accomodation in Cambridge, USA. The house has many problems such as, windows don't close properly, the gas leaks in the kitchen a little. The agency I rent from have said to me that they will not do anything to correct these problems. Who can I speak to, to get advice or support? ThanksHelp finding advice with problem landlords in USA?
The windows were there when you moved in. If they are older they are not plum anymore and you need to weather strip.
The gas leak is an issue, the power company should be out to look at it within a few hours of you calling them. They will pinpoint exactly where the leak is without charging you or your landlord. Who pays to fix it will depend on where it is and what caused it to start leaking. It is unusual for the lines to fail without being damaged, but it could just be a faulty washer.Help finding advice with problem landlords in USA?
I don't know about the windows, you may be stuck with them, but if there is a gas leak, if you smell gas ar all, call the gas company, they will be out within the hour, at least that's the way it is in this city. A gas leak is dangerous and could cause a fire or explosion. If there is a leak, the landlord will be required by law to fix the problem. I recently had a gas leak in my rental. The problem was the kitchen stove and it had to be replaced.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Issues: Need Advice/Help?
I've recently overheated my Jeep due to a faulty thermostat, which blew my orig. radiator. I've replaced the radiator and the thermostat and low and behold the Jeep still doesn't run correctly.
Symptoms: It will start and idle pretty smoothly, but as soon as I drop it into drive it shakes and runs really rough as if the gas mix isn't correct. If I floor it there is large delay in the power or acceleration of the vehicle. If I come to a stop in drive it will nearly stall out, but as soon as I drop it into neutral the rough idle quits and smooths out, then back into drive and it's all over again. When I push the gas in neutral it seems to rev correctly. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be/is going on? If you have any suggestions please include novice directions as how to test or correctly diagnose...Thanks a million.1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Issues: Need Advice/Help?
the overheat may have damaged the coolant temp sensor... or worse case senario warped a cylider head..1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Issues: Need Advice/Help?
Don't know the cure for the Jeep but the symptoms are that of incorrect timing.
Seems like it just acts up under load conditions, which could indicate a number of things.
Serious overheating could destroy the plugs, and also could warp some of the valves. Either of these conditions could give the results you now experience.
Pull all of the plugs, and get ready to replace them, while they're out, check compression on all cylinders. The compression check should tell you if the valves are burnt or shot.
This is also an indication of possible spark wire shorting to ground, best way to check them is at night, have someone power brake the vehicle, while watching under the hood, if the wires are shorting the spark will be visible.
A bad overheating will also blow head gaskets, but that usually is a constant miss, not just under power.

I need some advice on how to help my daughter sleep better.?
I've wrote in several times seeking sleeping advice for my 4 1/2 month old. She has been diagnosed with acid reflux so they put her on Prevacid twice a day and cereal in her bottles. After about a week of the cereal, I noticed that she didn't want to hardly eat anymore. She is seeing a specialist and they did a Gastric emptying test on her last week. This test discovered that her system is slow and they took her back off of cereal and gave her another medicine for this. Since she has started this new medication she acts like she did when she was first born, like she has a severe tummy ache and she can't sleep. I've been up all night with her for a week. She doesn't act like this during the day. The moral of the story is, what can I do to help her (and myself) sleep better at night?I need some advice on how to help my daughter sleep better.?
i know how you fill my son has the same problum but i found if i put him in his swing to sleep that seamd to help also i tok him off the medasin and put him on ar formula and also becuse if they are on the medasin for to long it can coze brain damage i read in to itI need some advice on how to help my daughter sleep better.?
I am sorry your daughter has gastric problems. None of my children slept well. My pediatrician had some helpful advice and I was able to get a few hours sleep here and there. I would advise you to consult your pediatrician on the phone first thing in the morning.
The good news is that it doesn't last for ever. Try to be kind to yourself and don't expect anything from yourself but to be gentle with your daughter and get through this difficult time.
Are you trying to make her sleep lying down completely flat?
bath time with lavender baby stuff.
try putting her on her tummy on your chest and rubbing her back, sometimes i fall asleep too
and maybe some baby tea its kinda licorice flavored they have it in europe its like their grape water its worth a try
have you talked to the doctor or pharmasist abput the problem it could be as simple as adjusting the dosage or i could be a more serious side effect
Use Aveeno calming body wash. It helps babies sleep. And if shes attached to you, keep something that smells like you like a t shirt or something next to her while she sleeps (that is, if you dont sleep near her).
For you -- sleep whenever you can until this passes. If she takes naps still, sleep while she sleeps. Do you have anyone to watch her to maybe help you out a little?
You can also let them sleep in a carrier or a car seat that is how i left my son sleep sometime when i just needed sleep i also would feed him that way so that he wouldn't throw up he had it very bad he was on all kinds of meds he actually losted weigh because of the dr's they told me that since he wasn't a premeire that he couldn't have it and it took two monthes of fighting with them to just preform the test for it them it took changing the formula a couple of times they make a formula that is made by enfamil called nutragien for colicy babies try it worked wonders for him we had to put three tablespoons of cereal in his bottle i would try it. it can't hurt nothing to try this i no what u are going through u can also take a warm cloth and lay across the belly and car rides do wonders to if u need anymore help u can im me at cheatrivercandle

Do you have any advice on how to help my friend who's mother just found out she has cancer?
His mother has advanced colon cancer that has spread to her liver and lungs and has just started treatment. I want to be supportive to him and his mother. Any suggestions?Do you have any advice on how to help my friend who's mother just found out she has cancer?
There is very little that you can do to take the shock and pain of the situation away. You can, however, do some small things for them such as cook them meals once a week or offer to take help take her to her appointments. I do not know what the situation is and how old everyone is here, but you could also offer to come over and stay with her while your friend goes out.
If none of these things seem right to you, send cards to her once a week . . something that she can enjoy. Call and ask if there is any garden or lawn work that needs to be done. Get together with other friends and give a gas card to help with the costs of transportation. Give a phone card to help out with the costs of calling people. Those are all small, supportive things that you can do. Most of all . . do not forget about them . . people can survive with cancer for a long time. After a few months, people tend to forget about the cancer patient. So, try to do something weekly to show your support.
Good luck.Do you have any advice on how to help my friend who's mother just found out she has cancer?
Psychiatry visit is absolutely necessary and helpful.
I would purchase a special type of tea called Essiac tea. It is an alternative cancer treatment that was originally introduced in 1922. It has been kept hidden because of the billions of dollars the cancer researching hospitals, doctors, and nurses would lose.
obviously, there were many guidelines, there were nothing we cannot solve problem, advise her that pray for her mother, keep watching her day after day, and the most importnt thing is always be there side by side with her mother..... physiologically, that will improve the mother's willing to get better.

Hi, Chatting
Pray for your friend and his mother everyday and be as supportive as you can. My brother has lung cancer and I just try to be there for whatever he needs even just to talk to or cry on my shoulders if needed. It's really hard dealing with at times but you just have to have faith and stay strong. Please keep us informed as to how him and his mom are doing. I also forgot to mention I seen where someone else here named Realist mentioned Essiac Tea, my brother was just told about that also and that it builds up your immune system. My brother bought some of it the other day at a health food store and he's going to try it as well.
try to support her as much as you can. if shes feeling donw, cheer her up. thats all i wanted when my dad had cancer. but he died last year it was so hard to get over it.
I just found i am in remission,so there is hope.Just being there for your friend and believe me the power of prayer really helps. Also go to the American Cancer Soceity,as they could put you in touch with different support groups.Your friend%26amp;Mom will be in my prayers.
everything in the life have aprocess, be strong and positive in this moments because she needs you spacialy now,and pray with faith a lot.pray to god believing that he is goin to asnwer. but if something goes grong.... some day we have to leave this world to a better place.
good luck be strong and faithfull.
IF you believe in GOD try to pray with all your heart.
My grndmother had a cancer and almost die, but after 8 hrs. ger cancer just get smaller and the doctor said that IT is a miracle!
you may try this, dont worry f you try this thiers nothing to loose....
Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since 鈥?more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.revlon colorstay

Can anyone tell me about their experiences teaching esl in s. korea? any advice would help b/c i hear horror?
i hear many bad stories about teaching in s. korea. what kinds of schools are best, location with most foreigners and is it a worthwhile year offf? Can anyone tell me about their experiences teaching esl in s. korea? any advice would help b/c i hear horror?
I have lived and worked in Korea for about 5 years now. There are a lot of horror stories, but things are changing a lot since a recent shift in the Government. Surprisingly things are getting a lot better. Here is some clarification.
There are two types of schools:
A) Hogwans or private study academies. They seem to cause the most problems because anyone can start one and there seems to be no real governing body for them. Larger chain schools are better than smaller independent schools. The chain schools usually have been around longer, developed their own curriculum and have enough money to pay you. Smaller schools, not so much...
Pros: The hours are great! 2pm to 8pm, usually (mon-fri). Money! usually offer a higher rate of pay.
Cons: They are a business, and you are not a teacher (even if you have the papers to prove it). They are there to make money. Market saturation means a lot of ';schools'; open and close every day. This can be a problem if they have closed without giving you your final pay and plane ticket home.
B) EPIK program for Public schools
This is the program in Korea for teaching English in the public schools. It provides the training that you do not receive from the hogwans and places you in an actual school. You are treated as close to a real teacher as you can get, being that you are not Korean or have passed the Korean teaching exam. The schools are funded by the government and all of your expenses are covered. Ex. If you go on a field trip and get there yourself, you get gas money. Most schools will have an ';English Zone'; that you will help coordinate, this can be a headache, but this can also be a great way to reach the students.
Pros: Better treatment, more structure, and almost zero complaining from parents. Certain schools will have excellent facilities, some may not. Mine gives each teacher a laptop to use for the time they are there and rebuilt the english zone with sate-of-the-art flat panel tvs, computers, etc.
Cons: Pay is lower than at the Hogwans. You have to be at the school from 8:30am - 4:30pm and sometimes later, even if you don't have class. Bureaucracy, everything has to be signed and stamped, even if you have to leave to pay your bills, you have to get the signatures and stamps of your head teacher, the vice-principle, and the principle.
Overall, the advice I would say is find a good recruiter like Footprints Recruiting, so that you have some one to call if you do have any problems. I would take the steps and go for the EPIK program. Hogwans just don't compare to the experience.
There are other great places outside of Seoul. There are countless great cities to work in but make sure they don't stick you out in a country school, if this is your first time in Korea.
Busan, Ulsan, and Daegu seem to have the best foreigner communities outside of Seoul. However, it is what you make it. If you get out and explore your new location rather than hitting the bars every night, you'll be much better off. Foreigner bars are great, but they are a double-edged sword and can suck you into a bad element.
Other than that, once you are here, hook up with the foreigner/Korean community and contribute. The more active you are, the more fun and experiences you will have. The complaints that I have heard (outside of school related issues) have been either from people that have stayed in their element (ate western food, stayed home facebooking and complaining about Koreans) too long or never took the time to get out, meet people and contribute.
I hope this helps. I could write more, but alas... I have to actually go to school now.Can anyone tell me about their experiences teaching esl in s. korea? any advice would help b/c i hear horror?
Good info from Jason T. I just wanted to add that Seoul public schools is run by SMOE and not EPIK. I think EPIK does everything outside of Seoul. A public school is a good place to work because it is run by the government and you won't get cheated out of your pay, and you will have a good bit of paid vacation during the year so you will have plenty of time to travel if you want. Hagwons are not a sure bet, but there are some decent ones to work for. I would stay away from them if at all possible. Seoul is a good place to go to get both Korean culture and some foreign comfort when you start missing home. I'm not sure about Busan, haven't spent time there. Plus, if you want some country side, it is easy and cheap to hop on a train or bus out of town to a smaller city. It IS ';possible'; to get around in Seoul if you don't speak Korean as there are more English speakers than in other places, and more information in English, but of course the more Korean you speak the easier it will be all around. There is a lot to say, but I'll leave it at that. If you want to know anymore details you can pm me. Good luck.
Guys have a great experience doing this...but I don't know any girls who had done so. I think it really depends on what type of class you will be teaching...the experience in Korea will definitely be great and a big eye-opener...the food is great, the culture is very interesting...and I find the people there very nice...only problem is that you can't expect to get around with English...so make sure you find friends that are bilingual in order to get a true experience out of it...
The only horror I've heard from anyone teaching in Korea is that the schools are sort of miseducated and underfunded. They don't really allow you to do your own thing and books are limited so it seems the children aren't learning much.
Can you tell me about your experience teaching ESL in Toyohashi, Japan? Please e-mail me via Yahoo Answers.
yea good luck especialy with all this missle testing going on in N Korea. I would suggest going somewhere else to teah lest you care for your life

Advice for parents on how much help to give with homework?
My daughter is in year 8 and gets what seem to me to be really demanding homework. She claims not to know what I think she needs to know in order to be able to complete the tasks. Should we let her give in work which is what she can produce on her own but basically incorrect, or should we spend hours effectively teaching her at home? I'm concerned that if we give her too much help then the teacher will think that she knows more than she does, but then if we give her no help, will we know when there's a problem? I'd be really grateful for any advice, from parents and teachers!Advice for parents on how much help to give with homework?
From a (secondary maths) teachers point of view, I see homework as a way of assessing what they have done in class, to see if they have fully understood. I teach Y10 and 11 and encourage the students to write me messages about how they find the work both classwork and homework which helps me. Maybe you or your daughter could write a sentence at the bottom of the work explaining how much support was given.
Children can be sly/lazy, are you sure she's not just making you do the work? Maybe support her by sitting with her while she searches the Internet for help, rather than giving her all the answers. It may be that she starts to remember much more from class if you are not spoon feeding her the answers. But I wouldn't let her hand in wrong homework, as then she is in effect learning something wrong, and Murphy's law would be that she remembers the wrong information.
If you are concerned then contact the head of Year and discuss your concerns, it may be that she is in too high sets and would benefit from being moved down, but only the subject teachers would be able to answer that one!
Hope this helps!Advice for parents on how much help to give with homework?
Our school suggests that homework for our eight year old should take no more then half an hour. If she is stuck, we will explain a question to her etc. After half an hour what is done is done, and we put a note in to say that unable to finish the task in the time.
The school needs to know what the child can do........ if you do too much then you are correct your child may be assessed as being more able and then get less help in class, which perpetuates the problem.
My daughter only gets homework once a week, with reading and spelling on other nights. It is a matter of getting some balance, if she is working hard all day at school then she needs some down time, and also exercise, fun time and family time too.
It might be worth booking an appointment with your daughters teacher and having a chat with her about it. You are both on the same side - wanting the best for your daughter.
as a parent and a teacher, I would definitely help her at home understand what she needs in order to do the homework but definitely let the teacher know what you are doing at home. You might need to have a conference or two with the teachers in order to understand if this is work to follow up lessons in the classroom or to cover material the teacher couldn't cover in school.
I would definitely let the teacher know she's struggling so when the test comes it's not a surprise to teacher that she didn't do well. Maybe the teacher might need to spend a few minutes with your child every day to review.
Discuss this with the teacher who is setting the work, before doing anything else.
I think it is important to help children understand the method, help them as much as you can in teaching them how to work things out but not actually giving specific answers.
Give them the method, let them put it in to practise.
Edit:
I think for something like languages you need to speak to her teacher directly, or put a note in her french book explaining that your child is having great difficulty in understanding what she needs to do, and you are unsure of how to help her.
By communicating your worries to her teacher you can help eachother and your daughter understand her needs in this subject.
Is there an after school languages club where she can go to get help? if not can she suggest to her teacher it might be an idea to set one up for pupils?
Homework is designed to make your child think rather than for you to produce the answers. Tell her the method (if you know!) but don't do it for her. Eventually she will need to do exams and she can't take you with her.
You should help her anyway because if you don't, then she'll stay not knowing much. Show her how to do a problem or two and let her take it from there.
Perrsonally i suggest geting the child to do the work on their own in a seperate exercise book ; then the parent checks it and explains anything the child did not understand and the child makes their own amendments themselves as you go along. then the child copies thier final answers into the book that the school provides.
I have a seven year old, i agree with you that he gets far to much homework. I just help as much as I can, but make him work out the final answer. I also allow him to use the computer to find answers. Hope this helps.

PLZ could you help give me an advice on choosing between the NETWORKING and PROGRAMMING?
if iam already finished my MSc in network management on which i selected the network designing (CCNA ROUTE) . However , i found it recently that the network design work might almost finish when your network is designed ...and started to think that programming might be better . Not actually sure which field is better in the future and that oppertunities to hunt a job so quick as well as salary issue .
PLZ ......ggive me an advicePLZ could you help give me an advice on choosing between the NETWORKING and PROGRAMMING?
Networking is safer, but you need to make sure you don't just focus on Cisco (like Microsoft certs), or you'll end up like programmers who quickly become obsolete when businesses pick on new set of languages to use. I was a programmer and became a consultant as soon as I could, so I could request to go to different clients, and make sure I was using the latest operating system and programming languages and database.
Even with networking, you may have to move if you end up somewhere that becomes saturated with networking and engineers. The IT field has huge ups and downs, as evidenced by the down period now. But with so few people getting into the field now (scared off) and with the boomers retiring, they'll be huge demand in the next 5 years. But the cycle will continue, since once the demand increases, tons will get into training for the IT field, and will overwhelm it again. I';ve been laid off just once, but I kept my skills up.PLZ could you help give me an advice on choosing between the NETWORKING and PROGRAMMING?
Networking is probably more financially lucrative than programming. CCNA is a very basic start. You need to know a lot more than just that. CCIE is the ultimate Cicso certification.

I have two options in mind:
A: A black top with sequins around the colar with dark blue jeans and black heels.
B: A black and red cocktail dress (knee length) with the same heels.
The boob area and dress is mainly black but has a white and red floral pattern on the body part

Advice as to what kind of diet foods to help my two Golden Retrievers?
Very, Very overweight, Vet reccomended thyroid med for last 6 years, does not help, just offfice visits to take blood every two months and still the thyroid meds. (I'm Broke) I walk them twice a day 25 minuets each time, I feed them Iams Adult 1.5 cups in the AM and 1.5 cups in the PM, with warm water over it. Any suggestions ideas would be appreciated.Advice as to what kind of diet foods to help my two Golden Retrievers?
I would strongly suggest Canidae silver. It is for senior dogs and it is light years better for your Golden's than Iam's!
I fail to understand why the dogs thyropid levels need to be check so often. Especially if they haven't changed signifcantly over the past year or so. It should be done annually not every 2 months or at the very least every 6 months.
Personally if he cant get this under control with all the blood work he has done already then IMO he never will. You need a new vet!Advice as to what kind of diet foods to help my two Golden Retrievers?
WHOA,,, 3 cups a day for a golden at that age is TOOOOO MUCH FOOD... stop the meds and stop overfeeding your dogs..
switch to a high quality dry kibble .... such as canidae or INNOVA...... feed per package instructions...i would start with 1/2 cup twice a day to get the weight off..
HAVE YOU CALLED YOUR BREEDER?? regarding the thryoid issue?
remember, goldens always act like they are starving,,, they are not.... 1 cup of dry kibble isn't going to look like much,, but to start that will be fine.. because i am sure they also get snacks during the day too.
walking on a leash really isn't enough exercise for a golden,, do you have a place where you can throw a tennis ball for an hour or so??
Iams is a horrible diet!!!!!!
Your vet is milking you for all its worth. For some reason people don't think vets are crooks, let me tell you, they are no different than other business.
Feed your dog Innova Senior 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup in the evening.
You will see a huge difference.
No table scraps, no grocery store treats!
First, stop feeding Iams. It is unbalanced because it has lots of synthetic vitamins and bad meat sources, along with undigestable corn.
I would suggest switching to a high quality food, such as:
Innova Evo (Comes in low fat, with no grains, one I think is best)
Solid Gold
Canidae (Another Great Choice, not as expensive
Orijen
You can find all of the foods I listed at local pet stores, and to find one near you, go to their website.
As for the exercising, I would keep doing the 25 minutes, but add about 10 minutes of jogging for each. If you can't job with each dog, simply play fetch.
Once they start losing weight, I would take them off the low fat food, because dogs actually do better on a high fat, high protein food, with low carbs.
When they become more fit, play more fetch, or do a more rigorous exercise than just walking.
And I agree, each dog could be on about under one cup morning and night of food.
Iams is full of grain and filler, try Nutrience Natural for weight control, of Medical Sr. Weight control from the vet. Labs need primarily meat, try a boiled chicken breast once in awhile or the broth from boiling it. Grain causes kidney, liver and thyroid issues as they get older. My Lab is on Nutrience...and I don't plan on changing her!
I also think your feeding them a terrible food! 3 cups per day is way too much for over weight Golden's.
I would also suggest the Canidae silver for senior dogs. They make a high quality food for dogs. I feed the Lamb and Rice to my dogs.
I too think you need to find a new vet. All that blood work for thyroid testing is totally unecessary! Annually is plently for them!
They do more excersise than just walking perhaps you can find a neighborhood child who can come and play with them you can pay himor her a nominal fee to get your dogs off their butts durring the day too.
Talking to your breeder makes no sence to me at this point. They are 6 years old. What can your breeder possibly offer to say to you except do what your vet has recomended! I think it is a waste of time. Esppecially if you have not kept in close contact with the breeder over the whole time you have had your dogs.
Our dog is part Golden Retriever, the other is part Sheppard. They both get one cup morning and evening and run twice a day. They are about 55 lbs each and very trim! What do your dogs weigh? We also give them biscuits throughout the day and about 1/4 cup of soup/leftovers mixed in with their food for both meals. Supposedly we buy the ';best'; food on the market--made by a local company that specializes in animal feed that we mix in equal portions with a less expensive brand. Will your dogs run? It makes a difference. Please don't starve them with only a half cup like someone suggested. If you are overweight, go on a diet with them. Walk faster and/or run together.
I'll agree, 3 cups a day is WAY to much food, especially since they are overwieght. I fed my labrador retriever about 2 cups per day and it kept her at a healthy wieght. Since your dogs are overwieght, you need to reduce the food they are getting by more than t5hat, I would suggest maybe 1.5-1.75 cups per day each, until they reach an ideal weight, then up it to 2 cups for maintenece, if they fail to lose wieght on 1.75 or 1.5, lower it some more. They will get the same nutrition, but less calories. I also think you should choose a better quality food- Canidae platinum is a good suggestion, eagle pack holistics senior, chicken soup senior would be good alternatives. www.dogfoodanalysis.com provides a good guide to dog foods- anything over 3 or 4 stars is a good food. They are old enough to be on a senior formula, and should be. Senior formulas contain extra glucosamine and other supplements to help senior bones and health. With your boys extra wieght, they'll need that support even more. It will also help them to drop wieght. Finally- walks are great, but obviously not enough. Do they play fetch? Thats a great way to add intensive exercise to thier day even if you're not in top shape yourself. 10 minutes of fetch on top of thier walk would be great. Alternately, try walking briskly for 10 minutes, or adding some type of play that they enjoy- tug, chase, whatever gets them going. You could possibley look at adding a third walk, or hiring a dog walker to give them a longer work out if you need to. Give it time to work- I would go at it a month or two before expecting to see wieght loss. Also, what kind of treats are they getting? Cut out all table scraps and comercial treats. If you must add them, then reduce the amount of kibble you feed to account for the treats. Things that keep dogs full without alot of calories- carrots are great! they also make nice, crunchy chew toys. I've also heard of using canned pumpkin to add bulk to thier diet without dding alot of calories. Ice cubes and apples can keep them busy as well. If it makes you feel better, measure out thier kibble in the morning and give it out throughout the day as treats and snacks, then give whatever is left at night for thier dinner. This way they will always be digesting a little, it will help thier metabolism and keep them satiated. Hope that helps. -Neb
the best advice i can give is ask a vet. They know the most about animals. If the food the vet gave you doesn't help then talk to another vet. Another way to get them to lose more pounds is maybe on a not to cold and not to hot day, take them to a dog park and bring a ball to play fetch with. I think the best thing to do is get advice from another vet.
Don't feed them Iams. It may no be off the market anymore but still don't trust it. READ THE LABLE BEFORE BUYING THE FOODS. Hope this helps!!:)

My dog can get hyperactive, and nothing we do seems to help! Any advice?
My family has a two-year-old Catahula Leapord named Nelly. For the most part she is wonderful, but every once in a while something will set her off and she starts running around the house wildly, knocking in to people. Different things will set her off-if we stop petting her, if we try to get her to go in a room for the night, or if someone new comes in. We've tried everything to stop it-first, we put her in the bathroom for two minutes, like a 'time out'. This worked a little, but then she caught on and now everytime we go for her collar she darts away and gets even more hyper. We tried turning away from her and giving her no attention, but she still runs wild. Sometimes loud noises help, but after the first couple of times she gets used to it and the noise just gets her more fired up. We even tried squirting her with water, but now that just makes her worse. She is very well trained otherwise-it's just when she is running around we can not control her. Does any one have any advice? My dog can get hyperactive, and nothing we do seems to help! Any advice?
I think you should sign up for some classes with a trainer/behaviorist. If it frustrates you as much as it seems, it will be money well spent. The trainer/behaviorist will be able to identify your pet's issues and offer you specific ways to work with the dog to alter the behavior.
By the way, dog's generally don't respond well to negative reinforcement (i.e. spanking, etc.) so I would ignore the previous advice! Also, it seems that Nelly is a very smart girl and she's learned to associate you grabbing her collar and giving the ';time out'; as a negative thing...therefore she tries to avoid it. Try working with treats. If she starts to bound around the house...try getting her to stop with a treat and eventually if you can hold her and give her the treat until she does the behavior without the treat...it's a gradual process, but well worth it:)
Don't breed or buy while homeless pets die!My dog can get hyperactive, and nothing we do seems to help! Any advice?
what you have described sounds like we call ';freaking out'; It is very common with dogs who are breed to run and or herd. your dog was breed to herd so it is no surprise she is doing this. it is very important to get her the exercise she needs. when she does this get out of her way don't try to stop her. jump onto furniture or lean to a wall and she will run about for a few minutes and then stand there and let out an exhausted sigh. you probably got her because her temperment is very kind and she needs little training and whatnot because of her intellegence. THIS is an instinct in the breed when they need to release the energy they have. I am sure you will find if you exercise her more then she will be rare with freak outs if at all. if you don't like to run you may try an attachment to a bike like a big spring that allows you to ride with her next to you running(don't go too fast now) also you may try a tennis ball flinger if you are near a park and can trust her off lead it wears them out fast with little parental effort. also you may want to give her a chew toy at night or when company is coming over, it will get a bit of energy out when you can't be running around. but exercise I swear is key with herding breeds, eventually if you don't let them get it out they will become a bit aggressive so nip it in the butt now and you will be fine.
Dogs do that. I have always joked about the ghost that pinches their butts. I have had many dogs and several cats. They just do that. I had one dog that did it at the same time every night. Just keep out of the way until she stops.
SMACK HIM UPSIDE HIS HEAD,,,
A tired dog is a good dog. give here lots of excersie. a breed like that needs a good run in the morning 45 mins or more and a good run in the eve
good luck
The Dog Whisperer would tell you to make sure that they are properly exercised. Not just a slow walk but a vigorous work-out. Make sure you always take the lead and make her walk behind you. This will wear her out so that you can work on correcting her behavior. I would have a little time out cage to put her in if she gets out of hand. Bring her out when she is calmer. I bet the exercise will change her for the better. She needs to work off the extra energy.
I'm not an expert, but it seems as though you need to start with square one with training.
Leave your dog on a lead ALL THE TIME... just leave it attached to her collar, and let her drag it around the house. When she starts into her frenzies, grab the lead and let her know who's boss firmly and swiftly. Teach her a command like down, or crate when she starts freaking out so she will learn what position you expect from her rather than the naughty behavior.
Leave her on a lead until she listens to your command without distraction.
http://www.leerburg.com can help you too. Good luck.
Since she's only two, it might be a phase that will just pass. But if it doesn't...I love animals and am totally against animal cruelty. But I really think you need to smack her. You need to hit her hard enough that it will hurt, but not hard enough to seriously injure her. You might have to do that once or a couple of times, but it should eventually work. I only resort to smacking if nothing else works. If it doesn't work, she really needs to see a dog trainer. Oh, and only do this if the hyperactivity is really bugging you. Don't just do it because. If she's not hurting anyone or anything, don't just smack her for no reason. Hope this helps. Good luck!

How to tie-dye?? Helpful advice? HELP!?
Any tips for tie-dying or how to make various patterns? If you can explain the whole process, that would be appreciated, or recommend helpful websites. Thanks! How to tie-dye?? Helpful advice? HELP!?
just type in ';how to tie dye'; in the web search. it brought up a few links.

lets say you're tye dying a t shirt. prepare your dye. then rubber band the parts you want a certain color. you can leave some unbanded part at the end. then rubber band other parts. you can put plastic bags tightly rubber banded, already colored or not to keep that part as is. then move around various parts of the shirt putting more rubber bands wherever you want. dip that in the dye. and then you're finished. it sounds harder than it is. have fun.

Is BHO going to ask John Edwards advice on how to funnel campaign to help individuals ?
BHO's half BRO could use some money. It is really starting to damage his reputation as a ';Citizen of the World';. BHO could save a few bucks if he found out how to get the $ from his campaign to his brother like Edwards did with his mistress. Is BHO going to ask John Edwards advice on how to funnel campaign to help individuals ?
He tried to reach Edwards but he couldn't get ahold of him ... Seems he was at a hotel with his hooker while his ill wife was at home taking her meds to try to recover. Is BHO going to ask John Edwards advice on how to funnel campaign to help individuals ?

Please help with advice on moving to Miami or West Palm Beach?
My roommate and I are trying to decide on which city to move to. We are both in our early 20's and we want to find good jobs as servers quickly upon arrival. Which city is best for that availability and for general living? Any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciatedPlease help with advice on moving to Miami or West Palm Beach?
Both cities have pro %26amp; con's. Miami is the most urban. Well paying jobs in the service industry will require knowledge of Spanish. South Beach is the heart of the tourist district %26amp; rents in the area are high. The job market there is tough for beginners. work experience is necessary, come prepared.
Ft Lauderdale through West Palm is more relaxed %26amp; most tourist are northerners. Summers can be slow, winter is the big tourist season. Jobs are available but know that the pay scales are lower than up north. Generally, The closer to the beach the better the area.
Bring identification with you to show that you are legal to work.
Good Luck.

Can anyone help me with advice on hunting?
I have been reading about the Masai Mara tribe in Africa and how as an initiation into manhood the males of the tribe will have to kill a lion, armed only with a spear. I don't live in Africa but thought I could try the same thing with a Brown Bear, can anyone give me any tips or advice on how best to achieve the kill, thanks :)Can anyone help me with advice on hunting?
cold steel used to make an excellent hunting spear. Not designed for throwing, rather it was reminiscent of the old style boar or bear spear that was used to let the charging animal impale itself on. It featured the mandatory cross guard just above the over length spear tip to prevent the animal from running right on up the spear shaft to reach the ';hunter';. Royalty in europe used these with varying success on bears. Sometimes the bear got under the spear and it was all over for the hunter.
Should you try this on a Kodiak brown bear? Um, NO!!
Even if you managed to impale the bear charging you, it's massive weight would allow it to continue the charge and end your spear hunting safari rather quickly.
As for throwing a spear at a brown bear, well, not only would you then be ';un armed';, but you would be facing a very angry killing machine. And just for point of interest, the Masai tribesman didn't kill it single handed. The only actual footage I have seen was of a group of tribesman all throwing spears into the lion at the same time, and carrying extra spears to continue the fight till the lion was down, then using even more spears to pin it down while it's throat was cut.
so, to answer your question, ';can anyone give me tips or advice?'; Yes, DON'T TRY IT!! ;0)

I'm not sure how determined you are but that is probably more dangerous than jumping off a five story building. Brown bears are the most powerful animals on land pound for pound in North America. Very few people have been attacked and lived to talk about it. I recommend you find a less dangerous animal and then dog run the animal towards you with about a five or 6 foot spear.
a lion is much easier to kill than a bear with a spear man...in order to kill a bear with a spear you will have to go into his cave in the winter, hunters who used to do this went in bands of three to seven...so i wouldnt suggest goin in alone, you could always try to bait and trap it outside with smaller things, like a rabbit or some fish and make sure they can for sure sent the blood from the animals or fish. but watch your *** they can be quiet.
and you only have one chance to do this, when the bear approches you and is comming in for attack, u must use his own weight to kill him, and you cannot hesitate make him fall on your spear... but if you really want to do that you can not hesitate because he will be comming in extreamly fast, fater than you think, if you are not in shape and dont have decent genitics, i wouldnt even consider trying what you are thining about because you may still have a fight on your hands...like i said it is much harder to kill a bear with a spear than i lion, and those africans hunt in bands of groups
Rent the movie ';The Edge'; Anthony Hopkins kills a Kodiak using a spear. Then again its hollywood lol. I`ll be looking for the headlines in the newspapers. Could you wear a helmet cam when you do this? It`s a win win situation, you get eaten we`ll get to see you inside the bear, you kill the bear with the spear you`ll have proof. I`d also wear a dog tag or an ID braclet made of metal, so they can identify which pile of poop you are.
you put a trash can of in the woods with bacon grease and other trash because that attracts bears and then you climb into a tree stand near by (don't hunt on the ground for bear very dangerous). you just sit and wait to you see a bear then make sure you shoot it behind its front shoulder and then after you hit it wait for about an hour then go follow the blood trail.
make sure you use a high power rifle
First get life insurance, ensuring there is no exclusion for suicide, then take your pointy stick, a video camera and an E-perb. First find a bear then activate the E-perb and begin recording on the camera (this way someone will be able to find the camera later) then poke bear with pointy stick, simple.
Why don't you ask one from the tribe? They are the real safari hunters. Forget the ones that gotten eaten or chased off.
What's next after learning that? Kill a shark with a butter knife, get a croc with chopsticks or capture a boa with a spoon. You guys sure do funny things!
Why yes.... (another excellent question on Yahoo answers!!!)
This should be a very meaningful initiation into manhood for you. There's a lot of large vessels in the neck - I'd poke em there.....
Wear something tasteful and appropriate for the occasion.
don't do it, are you crazy!! the bear will kill you do you understand, a bear's a lot tougher then you, so don't try it, please.
Sure, just don't let the Brown Bear ever, ever, ever see you.
Oh, and bring a big a$$ gun with you.
Good Luck using a spear against a Brown Bear you will be more better using a 44 mag or any High powered gun.
Forget about the Spear approach.* Bad Idea.*
Forget it..... The bear is faster and stronger than you.......
Your death may be considered a suicide.....
Cover yourself in cyanide. That way after the bear eats you, which it will, it'll die too.
Funny. Tranquilize one first with a dart gun, then sneak up on it and stab it about 50 times.
if you try what you suggest you will have a new life as a pile of bear turds
Dude if you are serious I want to watch so record it and put in on the net ok.
