Well, not to add to a sea of mixed responses, but just as an alternative I would suggest http://www.GotHosting.org. You can pay monthly with plans starting at $2.50. It is a very reliable host and has never been down for me. It has a lot of features that may be of use i.e. Free instant installed forums, blogs, and even shopping carts used to e-commerce stores.
