I work full time and retuning back to school, i just cant get it together. please help any advice will help?

i am a single mom reurning back to school and i work full time as well. i currently enrolled for 2 classes but is seems like i can never get enough time to get the reading done for both classes. it seem as if the most i can read is maybe 3 pages before i want to pass out. and the funny thing is that the books are some what interesting. i just feel overwhelmed because i feel like there is there is something some where i just not doing correctly. i dont have a social life so i know thats not where my time is going.I work full time and retuning back to school, i just cant get it together. please help any advice will help?
1) Seek out the student academic counseling services @ your school and find out about seminars or classes dedicated to improving reading comprehension, note taking skills %26amp; study habits.

2) The most popular method for reading textbooks is the SQ3R method: survey, question, read, recite %26amp; review.

What I try to do is to break down the reading assignments into chunks - either by chapter or topic.

Then I survey the section I'm going to read by scanning the section headings, any notes in the margin and any review questions at the end.

Most textbooks provide a chapter summary %26amp; review questions. So you can flip through the chapter to get a feel for it %26amp; read the chapter summary instead. Note the things that don't make sense to you so you can focus on them when you read the chapter.

After you've scanned %26amp; read, then review the key points. It helps to make an outline or at the very least a list of key terms %26amp; concepts to use as study guides later.

Before each lecture, scan your study guide to reinforce the material and to see if there are any questions you need to ask the instructor.

If you haven't read the material before the lecture, then be sure to take good lecture notes %26amp; keep them on hand when you do the reading. Skim the lecture notes %26amp; the chapter/section summary. Then you can decide where you should focus %26amp; where you can save time.

Links about SQ3R:

http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/n鈥?/a>

http://www.ic.arizona.edu/ic/wrightr/oth鈥?/a>

http://www.studygs.net/texred2.htm

Each of these links has a different presentation. Choose the one that you like the best %26amp; print it out for reference.

Customize the methods to suit your learning style. (e.g. visual, auditory, etc.)

3) I'm a procrastinator so I compensate by using strategies like these:

- Always make time to scan the reading. Be sure you have excellent lecture notes. This way, you don't have to worry as much about the reading. Read as time permits.

- I sign up for 1 ';extra'; class so I can survey them %26amp; drop the one I like the least.

- I stick w/ instructors who are highly organized, present the material thoroughly %26amp; are extremely clear about course objectives/requirements.

- If there are extra credit opportunities, take them. Extra credit helps alleviate exam pressure.

- For classes that will have multiple choice tests, I usually just browse through the reading right before class. I take really good lecture notes %26amp; only use the textbook to supplement them. (i.e. use the practice questions, look up definitions, review key concepts that aren't clear from my notes)

For classes w/ an emphasis on multiple choice, reviewing lists key terms/concepts is the key. Because for multiple choice, you only have to recall %26amp; recognize concepts or ideas. The ones that don't come back right away - apply process of elimination %26amp; always answer the question to increase your odds of getting a good score.

Also, use sample tests in the textbook or previous exams the instructor may have online or in the library to practice %26amp; to determine what you need to study further.

4) Don't feel you must spend an equal amount of time on every class or every assignment. Know your strengths %26amp; weaknesses so you can use your time wisely.

Balance your classes. Don't take 2 tough classes at once. Try to take one that is challenging w/ one that's easy. If a class is really time consuming, consider just taking that one class so you can do well.

5) Find a good study partner in each class. Be each other's back up. Compare notes. If you really work well together, you can divvy up reading assignments %26amp; exchange your study guides.I work full time and retuning back to school, i just cant get it together. please help any advice will help?
You might want to get a job where you can work from home, or at least set your own hours. That way you could experiment with different schedules and see what works best.

I have a Golden Retriver that has a leg/hip problem. Need some help/advice Please?!?

I have a pure bred golden retriver that is turning 7 years old in a few weeks. He weighs 145 lbs which makes him a pretty big dog, but isnt surprising to us at least since his parents were just as big.

Anyway about a week and a half ago I noticed he was sort of limping on his back foot. I though he might have done somthing to it becasue even in the past somethings happend with his leg that I didn't see and it get better in a few days.

Well just a few days ago the problem wasn't any better and I noticed that when he walked he would limp but he would turn his back foot to the side when he walked which would make it look like he was limping. So then I thought maybe it was his hip?

With all this he's still acting like his old self still rolling on the grass running jumping (but trying to rerain his from doing so) So he's still his old self

Just wanting to know if anyone has had this problem before? Is it his leg or hip? Should I take his to the vet or let it heal on its own?I have a Golden Retriver that has a leg/hip problem. Need some help/advice Please?!?
It's his hips. Have you ever had him x-rayed for dysplasia? Try to get some weight off him. It won't solve the problem, but it will take some pressure off his hips.I have a Golden Retriver that has a leg/hip problem. Need some help/advice Please?!?
take him to the vet. It hopefully is something minor but could be hip displasia or arthritis like the people above said. But think of this do you want your dog to be in pain? the vet will help relieve the pain whatever it is.
Even large Golden Retrievers don't usually hit 100 pounds and they do have a tendency towards bone and joint issues such as hip dysplasia and arthritic conditions when bred correctly. Most conscientious breeders OFA their dog's hips and elbows and breed to the standard to maintain breed characteristics that allow the dog to best be able to do its work, that of a bird dog. Someone that would breed dogs that large to begin with doubtfully would do the health testing necessary to insure prevention of problems. Everyone always thinks conformation is about being 'pretty' but it is about being structurally sound -- not prone to breaking down over time because of correct structure. Goldens have been quite popular for some time and are thus indescriminantly bred without regard to sound structure except by responsible breeders so the odds of it being a leg and/or hip problem is very high, particulary given his being oversized to begin with. It won't heal on its own -- even if it is a trauma injury, it likely is rooted in unsound structure so will need intervention from a vet. Make sure you keep any excess weight off of him as well as that simply makes matters worse. Good luck...
It would be a good idea to take him to the vet, you should determine if there is not a larger problem or a chronic problem finally showing. Since the dog is limping, there is some type of pain in his movement. With a dog that size, I would suspect a joint, most likely the hip. GR's have a history of hip problems in the breed also. Any history of joint problems in the dogs parents, brothers and sisters etc.

Supportive care for hip joint problems include changing diet to improve nutrition and reduce wieght on the joints, supplements for joints like glucosamine/chondroitin/omega oils and accupunture for joint support and healing. Reducing inflamation will provide effective pain managment so the dog is not suffering. With support dogs can live well with chonic joint problems.
It would be a good idea to take him to the vet. The vet may want to take an x-ray and check for dysplasia (hip).
He is a large dog and he is getting older, it could be arthritis and that can be pretty uncomfortable. There is a slim chance it could be worse and could be hip dysplasia. So, since it is painful whether it is serious or not, you really should have the Vet check him out. He will have a few more aches and pains as he ages and you will want to do what you can to help his golden years be as comfortable for him as possible.
Take your dog to the vet and have him thoroughly checked, then since he is older get him on a glucosamine, msm supplement and fish oil.

i have seen amazing results in two of my dogs with the use of these supplements.

My oldest had a neck injury and the second oldest has bad patellas-both were treated traditionally with steroids and rimadyl and got some relief but it did not last. I then searched and found great fish oil and glucosamine supplements and since using them both are feeling great and have had no reoccurance my vet is very impressed. See my source for a link to check out and order these supplements. You won't be sorry. My dogs will never spend another day without these supplements. Hope this helps.
145 lbs is big for a golden. is he over weight? cause that may be his problem. if a dog is overweight it affects them as they get older. Golden's are supposed to weigh between 70-85. 145 sounds like your dog is either overweight or mixed with a bigger dog. either way take him to the vet. large dogs like Golden's are prone to hip dysplasia
Large dogs like golden retrievers are common for leg and hip problems. Take him to the vet. They get hip displacements and can get bad if left unseen to.

Older dog help and advice needed, how to help her ?

I have a 12 year old Shihtzu who of course I love very much. Her physical health is still good, she will run some when we got with my other 2 younger ones to the park, but she is losing her sight and hearing, and when we are out in the yard, if she loses track of me she starts barking really loud, do they hear high or low sounds better at this stage, as I could wear bells or such and ring when she can't find me. Also, I think dementia is just starting. She is such a sweet, had 19 pups in 3 litters years ago. I want to be as good as I can to her. The 2 younger ones are 1 and 2 and she is feeling left out. I pay a lot of attention to her, but she ';can't compete'; if you know what I mean. Please give me anything that you know older dogs enjoy, foods, treats, pets, hugs, anything special, I love her so.Older dog help and advice needed, how to help her ?
I've taught my dog to respond to specific touches, in anticipation of old age. For heel,(hearing loss) I run my finger from his shoulder to his head and he's right with me and the remote obedience signs, if he's at a distance.

You can also use her sense of smell, that keeps working no matter how old they get. For instance, a path sprayed with a lemon scent from the porch to where she wants to go potty will help her find her way back to the house. You, of course, have to respray it after a rainfall. In that light, you could use your favorite perfume and teach her that it means it's you by putting it on your wrist and letting her sniff at it. You might have to be a little strong with the scent at first, just until she gets the idea but don't we just do anything for love.Older dog help and advice needed, how to help her ?
Wendy , got a 15 year old bearded collie her hearing is selective and eyes look a little cloudy and her legs quite weak , but she loves her food, me grooming her and her own special small walk at night she cant go with the younger two as it is not fair on her or them so just take her and really just try to let her have her own special time ......... awful when they grow old isnt it ........
I have three dogs 17, 16 and 15 years old and they younger two have to be kept on leads when out in the fields, they tend to go suddenly deaf when they get a smell of some thing.
My miniature Poodle lived to be 18.3 years old. I home fed her a low fat diet and added supplements. You can find a canine nutrition or home cooking group on Yahoo that will advise you on what's best for your dog. I ran all the food through a food processor to make it easier for my dog to digest and I fed her four small meals a day instead of loading her up with one or two big ones. I gave her glucosomine and chondroitin for her joints and she never got arthritis, was able to jump on and off the couch even as a senior. I gave her CO Q10 for her heart, milk thistle for a healthy liver, salmon oil for skin and joints and many more. There's a supplement called PS that's excellent for stopping doggie dementia fast. I can't remember the full name, sorry.
I have a llasa apso and she was never fit enough to have pups, as her years have progressed we take her to the beach or really wherever we go actually. When we are out you would have no idea of her age as she acts as all the other dogs she meets. Just keep treating her as an important part of your family for as long as poss, that is all she wants. Give her a hug from me(the biggest dog lover in the world)
Giver her a special place in your life like maybe put her bed in your bedroom or next to your favorite chair. Let her ride in the front seat with you in the car. Dogs have a ranking order and these things will show her and the others she is still the queen. It would appear her senses are all dulling. If she can't smell you she won't hear you unless you use some sort of amplified device. She is experiencing severe emotional distress because she is being left alone (when she looses track). The best thing you can do for her is reconsile with yourself that she is nearing the end. At some point you will likely need to decide for her that the best thing is to put her down.
I do agree that she should be spayed: At this stage, puppies would not be good for her.

And yes, I do know what you mean. I helped take care of an ancient little terrier some time ago who suffered badly from arthritis and possibly cancer.

Bells are a very clever idea, and one I probably wouldn't have thought of. I'm not sure if the upper registers of a dog's hearing go first, or the lower ones. But it is well worth trying, especially if she learns to associate the sound with you.

Most of the older critters I have had like soft, fuzzy things to lay on. If you have an old shirt or robe that you don't especially want any more, you can make that into a pillow for her. The scent will comfort her, as well as the softness.

Is there any especial food or treat she likes? If so, keep a supply of that for her.

And love her all you can.
Wish i could help you out here as i feel for your frustrations, i'm on my 1st dog who's 6 this xmas so iv'e not had any experience! But dog Q's get good responses, so hopefully someone will help you out shortly?
Our Jack Russell was 18, completely deaf and nearly blind for the last year or so. When we realised he was having problems we taught him some new signals, so before we touched him we'd put the flat of our hands against the side of his face, he then knew we were going to groom him or pick him up and would stand still.

I was sure he could hear very high pitched noises, I tried a few things like whistles, but he'd often have trouble figuring out which direction it came from. He could see movement more easily than hear sound sio we'd wave to get his attention (only works if they're facing you!) , and they can feel you walking across the floor as well.

Keep the hair trimmed over her eyes to give her the best chance of seeing you!

They like routine and more fuss, and by that age they've earned it. They need steps to get onto the sofa, and treats are ok as long as the portions are small because they get fat more easily.

Make sure you get plenty of good photos, you won't regret that after they're gone.
You`re obviously already doing everything you can for her. Lovely dog - lovely owner. If all animals were this loved......
just keep doing what ur doing and give the other dogs some lovin to and ur dog is getting old so this is going to happen.
    Hi!

We also have an older female shih tzu. From what you've described, our Pebbles is also experiencing similiar problems. Since we also have a female and a male who are younger, we spend as much time with the three of them doing things that cater to them individually. The younger male loves playing with toys and chasing them endlessly. We take him aside and play with his favorites toys. The younger female is more the girly girl. She doesn't like toys as much but enjoys simple pampering such as ear massages and just being held while watching tv. The older girl stays off to herself at times because the younger ones being more active often run her down while they play. She loves simple things though. She has curvature of her spine and often enjoys having her back massaged or her fur gently brushed. She also loves eating ice, although the most she does is lick and gums it. We take her out for walks separately since she is slower and can't make it as far as the others. She loves the individual attention. We just learn to make necessary adjustments for her and try to figure out what the barks indicate. Since she is also losing her sight, she will bark to tell us if she needs to go out, or if she wants something. (usually it's a treat) She's a joy and a pleasure to have. Bless you for taking the time to continue loving an older dog. It brings them so much happiness. Good luck!
i don't want to be a kill joy, but, just be careful of the treats you give her. BOILED chicken is always a good way to spoil her. play with her as much as she can handle, give her extra attention, love, hugs, and kisses. maybe check with your vet about some joint supplements that might make her feel better. good website: windhover veterinary center. there is a link in the for geriatric care for dogs. good luck
Our little Pomeranian lived to be 13 (she had congestive heart failure). She did pretty well until the last couple of years of her life, then she started to get senile, and all the things that go along with old age. We showered her with much love and attention, and fed her her favorite foods and treats. When she couldn't go for our long walks anymore, I started taking her for bike rides in a little bike basket on the front of the bike. She really looked forward to that! =) I don't really recommend that unless you're sure your dog won't get scared. I always used a safety harness and secured her in the basket for safety's sake. It sounds like you're doing a very good job with her. Just keep showing her a whole lot of attention and love.
my old dog lived to 13 1/2 and i found that as she got older she got more and more tender and just wanted to be pet and massaged as much as i could. be careful with extra treats as older dogs can have problems with rich foods and gaining excess weight. love on her alot!
just lost my baby..... lost his sight and hearing--

took him to vet.... doc. said he was old and gave out..... he was 13yrs. old boxer..... he scared me when

he lost his eye sight-- then hearing-- and bumping in

to things......fount him on monday afternoon-----

still breathing a little-- but knew that was it........

this just happened on monday----April 2nd.........

he was 13 yrs. old......and i love him dearly.....
if you loved her you would have spayed her - unless of course you were actively showing her in conformation,... if she cannot hear or see you in the yard,,, keep her on a leash

I'm interested in finding a job in the UK; any help or advice would be apperciated?

I current work for a private estate and family in the US. I have excellent culinary and mangement skills.I'm interested in finding a job in the UK; any help or advice would be apperciated?
Decide where in UK you would like to be (better outside of London which is expensive, and great numbers competiing for jobs), and look up the local newspapers. If they have employment sections, you can check out what is available.

Real estate offices don't need many staff to run them, and the real estate scene may be very different from your experience in US. Culinary skills (particularly if you have certs awarded to you) might be a better starting point. A town may have a couple of real estate agents, but dozens of places to eat. And each of them needs all kinds of staff - cooking, cleaning, waiting, cashier .......

Good luck !!I'm interested in finding a job in the UK; any help or advice would be apperciated?
Join the queue... like everyone else here who is looking for work. Especially the natives!
Why not come over for a short while to look around and if you like it apply for a work permit.

A lot of mundane jobs in catering are being filled by very attractive East Europeans, but there are always openings for Good Class Chefs in pubs, clubs and restaurants.

There are a lot of ';home caring'; jobs which can be got though agencies.

There is still work for anyone who WANTS to work in England. You could become a Utility Sales Adviser or similar, but you do have to pass the MIRROR TEST. Are you up to it ? Yes they put a mirror in front of your face and ask you to breath out - if the mirror mists up - you get the job !!!

Go for it..We have plenty of Poles, we are looking for a few Rods and Perches. (Doubt any youngster would get that joke)
you need to get a visa to work here first

then take your cv aand send it to different firms but dont expect too much because theres a lot of british people unemployed at the moment
get a visa to work in the UK. Or you could get a job with a US company and get them to sponsor your UK visa - but this might take time.

When you have a visa, you need to register with recruitment consultants who can match your CV to vacancies they are looking to fill. Check out totaljobs.com or michaelpage.com for current vacancies.

  • SERIOUS HELP/ADVICE! Wallet stolen last night. How can I protect myself from identity theft?

There was $200 cash, a couple of gift cards totalling $75, and my driver's permit. I realized I left the wallet on the table of a local diner, but when I went back 30 min later, they said it wasn't there. I'm pretty sure it was the waitress took it, but I can't prove it and she was just a total jerk about it.

I'm not worried about the cash or gift cards, but my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER and ADDRESS were on the permit. What can I do to NOT get my identity stolen? HURRY! i;d do this now!
put a Fraud Alert on your Credit Reports
    Amber May,

I work for a not for profit credit counseling agency and we provide financial advice about many topics incuding identity theft.--

Identity Theft 鈥?It can happen to you.

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information without your knowledge to access your bank or credit card accounts, open up new accounts, commit fraud or other crimes.

8.9 million Americans have been victims of identity theft this year and almost half of all identity theft is perpetrated by someone you know. Don鈥檛 let it happen to you!

Unfortunately you can鈥檛 prevent identity theft but you can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a victim.

Follow these tips to help reduce your risk:

飪?Make sure any personal information in your home is secure.

飪?Keep your wallet or purse in a safe place at work.

飪?Make sure you memorize all passwords and PINs for your accounts. NEVER WRITE THEM DOWN. Avoid using obvious ones like your birth date, telephone #, social security #, or even a series of consecutive numbers.

飪?Don鈥檛 give out personal information over the phone, through the mail or internet, unless you initiated the contact.

飪?Always shred documents containing personal information and cut up old credit cards before discarding.

飪?Never write your credit card account numbers on the outside of the payment envelope.

飪?If possible install a locked mailbox at your residence or use a Post Office Box.

飪?Carry only the credit, debit cards, identification, social security cards that you will need on that particular day.

飪?Don鈥檛 open any emails or files sent to you by strangers.

飪?Before disposing of a computer delete all personal information off of the hard drive.

However, even if you are cautious, you can still be victimized.

Be aware of signs that you may be a victim:

飪?If you notice unexplained charges or withdrawals on your financial accounts.

飪?If you receive credit cards you didn鈥檛 apply for.

飪?If you are no longer receiving bills or other mail.

飪?If you were denied credit (and you know your credit history is good).

飪?If you receive calls or letters from debt collectors about merchandise or services you did not purchase.

飪?If a merchant refuses to accept your checks because you have a history of bouncing them (when you鈥檝e never bounced a check before).

What to do if you suspect you are a victim:

飪?Place fraud alerts on your file at each of the three credit reporting bureaus:

    Equifax 1.800.525.6285

    Experian 1.888.397.3742

    TransUnion 1.800.680.7289

飪?Call each company where accounts were fraudulently opened in your name. Make sure you document everything concerning these contacts.

飪?Contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1.877.438.4338 to obtain an ID Theft Affidavit to send to the companies with fraudulent accounts.

    飪?File a police report.

飪?Get copies of your credit report from each of the three credit reporting bureaus to check for errors. Then get another copy to ensure that the fraudulent information has been removed.

Be sure to order your credit report at least twice a year to check for errors and any strange activity. All citizens are entitled to one free credit report a year from each of the three credit reporting bureaus by calling 1.877.322.8228 or by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.

Important: According to the FTC, children are the latest targets of identity thieves. More than half a million youngsters have been victimized to date. Children are easy targets since the crime can go undetected for many years. Be sure to always keep your child鈥檚 social security number secure.
